Ceracolors, water soluble encaustic paint

I have a brand new workshop available with four dates and a guest artist, Heather Gentleman. Heather was my encaustic teacher and in 2007 after a few months of learning with her, gave me a wonderful opportunity to exhibit and use her studio and gallery at the Distillery. That opened up so many doors and became the portal to a very fulfilling art career. I am honoured to have Heather as a guest teaching artist at Second Door Studio this fall. 

Heather will be teaching a mixed media class using ceracolors, which is an emulsified wax paint that comes straight out of a tube and requires no special tools, ventilation or heat. It has its own unique properties but can replicate some of the qualities of oil painting, watercolour and encaustic. I have been experimenting with the medium myself and have attached photos of my latest work featuring ceracolors.

I also offer the paints at Second Door Studio with a 10% discount to students. Dates for the workshop are October 14, 15 and November 11, 12. Come for one day or the entire weekend.

Summer Studio Happenings July 2016

Hello....I want to update you all on my new classes and workshops.  I have updated my regular weekend encaustic workshop schedule.  Click here to see the dates I have available for July and August.  

Wax and Wine!

Have a fun night making art and memories with your friends!  We will work with mixed media and everyone will leave with a piece of art that can include your own imagery! Makes a great gift and a fun experience. I have hosted birthday parties at my studio...I call it wax and wine because we will use wax and you can bring your own wine or other beverage....and the Distillery District has many venues to socialize in after our class is over.  Click here for more details.

Travelling Art Parties

I am also open to coming to host a party at your house within the Greater Toronto Area subject to availability with my travelling art studio...please contact me here for a quote. We cannot use traditional hot wax, but I have lots of mixed media supplies - pan pastels, acrylic paints, stamps, stencils, collage and we can even experiment a little with water soluble encaustics which require no heat or instruments!

Team Building!

I am offering Corporate and Small Business Team Building workshops. As a former Corporate accountant, I know the benefits of having a creative outlet and I used my creativity to overcome feelings of stress and anxiety that sometimes came with having a demanding job. The mind is a powerful thing....we can either be drawn into our daily dramas or we can connect to our inner strength and have tranquility through right brain activity....weather it is art journaling, photography, painting, crafts - whatever your creative practice, they take you to a place of stillness.  I am a meditator and spend a good 20 minutes every day in a meditative state, but if I include my time being creative, I would say I am in a state of meditative bliss many hours a day. I am fortunate to be able to do this for a living now but I offer these workshops to help others also connect to that quiet space inside them. It is amazing to watch my students with the complete calm and stillness when they are deep in the creative process...even newbies who have never picked up a paintbrush.
